Climate premium for light and heavy electric vehicles

As of February 13, 2024, a new support scheme is available for light electric trucks. There has also been a special effort where small businesses can now receive increased support when purchasing emission-free heavy trucks. The purpose of the supports is to accelerate the electrification of Sweden's vehicle fleet and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate premium for light and heavy electric vehicles

The government has introduced a new support scheme for light electric trucks. The climate premium can be applied for by businesses, municipalities, and regions planning to purchase new light electric trucks. The decision means that up to 50,000 SEK in support per vehicle can be obtained. However, the support is temporary, and the amount will be gradually phased out by the end of 2025.

In connection with this, a change was also made whereby the support is differentiated for emission-free heavy trucks. This means that gas-powered trucks will still be able to benefit from the climate premium. In addition to differentiated support levels, emission-free heavy trucks will now also have an increased ceiling amount, up to a maximum of 25 percent of the purchase price.

"The fact that the government has now introduced support for light electric trucks and that heavy emission-free trucks receive expanded support is something we at GARO see as a great opportunity for the expansion of charging infrastructure in Sweden. The supports mean that more people can replace their fossil-fueled trucks with electric vehicles, and with this climate premium, we are paving the way towards an electric and more sustainable vehicle fleet," says Jonas Persson, Sales Director International Business, GARO E-mobility.
